About the NDIS in Wollongong NSW
Wollongong is located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales. It lies on the narrow coastal strip between the Illawarra Escarpment and the Pacific Ocean, 68 klm south of central Sydney. Wollongong had an estimated urban population of 302,739 at June 2018, making it the third-largest city in New South Wales. The Wollongong metropolitan area extends from Helensburgh in the north to Shell Cove in the south. It sits within the Wollongong Statistical District, which covers the local government areas of Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama, extending from the town of Helensburgh in the north, to Gerroa in the south

The NDIS began its rollout in the Wollongong region in July 2017.
There are an estimated 696 – 981 NDIS participants in the area across disabilities including autism, intellectual disability, neurological disorder, developmental delay, vision/hearing or other sensory impairment, mental illness & associated disability, disability caused by injury, down syndrome and participants with physical disabilities. The number of participants increases by an estimated 105 – 176 when including the Helensburgh area.
