How To Find NDIS Service Providers
Your NDIS funds have been allocated to help you achieve your goals. Besides having the necessary funds, you also need the right supports. Knowing how to find the right NDIS service provider can be challenging, but asking the right people and questions can help.
Once you’ve identified the types of services that may help you achieve your goals, it’s time to identify potential service providers. Some common ways to do this are:
- Ask for guidance from your ECEI Coordinator, LAC or Support Coordinator
- Search the Provider Finder on the myplace portal for registered providers
- Research providers (registered and unregistered) on the internet and check reviews (i.e google reviews)
- Ask for recommendations from friends or family
- Speak to different providers either face-to-face or over the phone before you enter into a service agreement
Since the NDIS is new, it may take time for new service providers to open in your area, particularly in remote areas. If there aren’t many providers where you live, consider other options such as other people or businesses in your area that might be able to support you. Those who are self-managed or plan-managed are able to choose from non-registered providers. In other cases, you may already be familiar with some service providers prior to the NDIS and may choose to work with them again. You may also want to try new providers when you become an NDIS participant. When considering a service provider, talk to them about your goals and discuss how they can help you work towards them. Some common questions to ask:
- Are you an NDIS registered provider? (more important if you are agency-managed)
- How will you help me achieve my goals?
- How much does your service cost?
- Can I choose which staff will work with me?
- Can you provide the service at a time that suits me?
- How can I make a complaint or resolve a payment issue?
- Can I make changes later on?
Sharing your plan is your choice. You can choose to share parts or all of your plan with your service providers through the myplace portal. A benefit of sharing your goals is that your service providers will know what you want to achieve and can understand how to better assist you. NDIS registered providers are required to follow privacy rules and are not permitted to share your personal information with anyone else without your permission.
